A bit of history
May 17 is an important symbolic date; Homosexuality was removed from the World Health Organization (WHO) list of mental illnesses on May 17, 1990.
In 2003, Fondation Émergence launched the first National Day Against Homophobia in Quebec.
In 2005, for the first time, a day against homophobia was organized on an international scale.
Today, the Day is celebrated in more than 60 countries around the world.

For families, friends, adults and young people who have questions and/or want to help, but who don’t know where to start, these organizations are there to help you.

Help and information service available 24 hours a day, which offers support to LGBTQ+ people, loved ones and staff from different backgrounds.
GRIS-Montréal is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote better knowledge of sexual and gender diversity and to facilitate the integration of LGBT+ people into society.
They work mainly in secondary schools and CEGEPs in the greater Montreal region.
GRIS volunteers also work with other clienteles such as French immersion classes, youth centers, workplaces and living environments for the elderly.
The JAG offers services for anyone in Montérégie West, Center and East, directly or indirectly affected by emotional, sexual and gender diversity, or who has questions.
Its service offering is divided into three components, namely individual meetings, group meetings as well as workshops and training adapted to educational and professional environments.
Jeunesse Lambda is a community organization created by and for young lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans and queer or questioning youth aged 14 to 30 who hold evenings of discussions and activities aimed at healthy socialization through exploration of varied themes approaching, directly or indirectly, the different realities of the community.
Jeunesse Idem aims to improve the quality of life of young people aged 7 to 35, gays, lesbians, bisexuals, trans and questioning, as well as to raise awareness among the population of the Outaouais region of the realities of the diversity of sexual orientations. and gender identities.
AGIR Montréal (Action LGBTQIA+ for immigrants and refugees) is an independent non-profit organization, by and for the LGBTQIA+ migrant community living in Montreal.
AGIR’s mission is to protect and defend the legal, social and economic rights of migrants from LGBTQIA+ communities, through services supporting their establishment in communities and collective and social activities aimed at overcoming the social exclusion.
Fierté agricole is a non-profit organization whose mission is to promote better knowledge of LGBTQ+ realities in rural and agricultural areas, and to facilitate the social integration of people of sexual and gender diversity who share an interest in agriculture.
Rainbow Refugee is a Vancouver-based organization that promotes safe and equitable migration for people fleeing persecution based on their sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, or HIV status.
The organization provides support, information and help navigating the system to refugees and asylum seekers seeking refugee status in Canada.
